This study was intended to show how much Group Art Therapy Program on Under Achievers affects children's Self-esteem and increase in Motivation for Learning.
The subjects were divided as an experimental group, 8 and control gorup, 8.
Term of conducting a Group Art Therapy program was 8 weeks and it was done two times each week with time given 90 to 150 minutes.
By using SPSS/PC+, a pre and post test on self-respect and motivation for learning in
an experimental and a control group was conducted, producing the result. And t-test was
also used to analyze the statistical significance.
The following are the conclusions to this study.
First, The Group Art Therapy Program was highly meaningful in improving Elementary
school Under achievers' Self-esteem. Particularly an subcategory of Self-esteem(M=5.50, p
<.05), School Self-esteem was statistically significant and at the respect of whole
Self-esteem, the difference(M13.37 p< .05) between the two groups was very significant.
Second, The Group Art Therapy Program was highly meaningful in improving an
Elementary school Under achievers' motivation for learning, basic value. In view of whole
motivation for learning, the experimental group showed higher mean(M=5.13) than the
control group, without showing any significant difference though. Therefore, the experimental group using the Group Art Activity showed higher improvement than the control group in the subcategory of motivation for learning, basic value.
Finally, on searching stage of Group Art Therapy Program, they were taciturn, lost desire to do but they have shown self-confidence, self-respect and their will to study on the stage of practice. Group Art Activity has a great effect on Elementary school Under Achievers' Self-esteem and motivation for learning in that on the stage of termination, they were willing to participate in a presentation, having lots of interest in any kind of learning activity.
