Reading is an important factor to study the other subjects in education. The purpose of this study was
to compare the status and developmental suggestion toward reading teaching between teachers who were
working for hearing impaired special school and hearing impaired students who were studying in the level
of high school. The questionnaire with 40 questions which were divided into 8 parts were developed for
this study. 128 students and 79 teachers were participated for this study. The factor analysis, X², t-test,
and F-test were utilized for this study. The results of this study were that: (a) the hearing impaired
students were reading about 1-2 books for month, and then writing their impressions of the books, the
teachers were teaching the students at pre, inter, and post reading at morning self study; (b) the students
recognized the reading study were very important subject, and the teachers also indicated the reading was
very important skill to study; and (c) the teachers attitudes toward reading skills were more positive rather
than those of the students. Therefore this study concluded that reading is very important subject to
hearing impaired students to study the other subjects and to adopt in the human-being society.
