This study measured the attitude toward the elderly of 163 social workers who
were working at elderly social welfare center, and then analyzed the effect of
experiences of social work practicum and volunteering on social workers's attitude
toward the elderly. As the results of analysis, the average score per each question
of the attitude was 3.92(total score 78.31) using the Semantic Differential Scaling of
Sanders et al.(1984), which meant that the score was neutral range(3.5~4.5). The
difference of attitudes toward elderly people between two social worker groups
depending on whether they had experienced social work practicum and volunteering
or not showed insignificant statistically. The analysis of regression to estimate the
effects of variables showed that the attitude toward elderly people was not effected
by participation in social work practicum and volunteering, or positive volunteering
experience, however the positive experiences of social work practicum effected on
the attitude with significance statistically.
