이 논문은 퇴계학파의 ‘리발’설에 나타난 윤리적 함의를 확인하기 위 한 것이다. 흔히 주자학과 구별되는 퇴계학만의 중요한 특징으로 ‘리발’ 을 꼽고 있는 것은 사실이다. 그러나 주자학과 퇴계학 사이에서는 리를 바라보는 기본적인 입장이 달라지고 있기 때문에 그것이 지향하는 의미 체계가 달라진다는 사실을 간과한 측면이 많다. 주자학의 리 개념은 주 자학이 보편철학으로 형성되는 과정에서 보편성을 확보하기 위한 개념 으로 설정되면서, 운동과 형상 등의 속성은 완전히 배제되었다. 그야말 로 원리나 근거로만 작용했으며, 이를 통해 개별화 된 개체들이 보편성 을 가질 수 있는 개념으로 정리되었다. 그러나 퇴계학파에 오면 ‘리’는 그 논의의 차원을 달리하게 된다. 리가 주자학에서는 형이상학적 논의의 중심을 이루었다면, 퇴계학에서는 심성론 속에서 리에 대한 입장들이 논 의되는데, 이것은 리가 직접적으로 윤리학적 구조 속으로 들어왔음을 의 미한다. 이 논문은 이황과 그의 후예인 이현일, 이상정의 철학을 통해 퇴계학의 리가 바로 이러한 기반 위에서 논의되고 있음을 확인하고, 그 구체적인 내용이 무엇인지를 살펴보고 있다. 특히 여기에서는 이황을 통 해 구체화 된 리발설이 이현일을 통해 좀 더 강하게 해석되는 양상과 이상정을 통해 기호학파의 이론을 수렴하면서도 리의 발을 관철시켜 내 는 모습들을 확인하고 있다.
The purpose of this paper is to identify ethical implicature which is mentioned in theory of 'Manifestation of Principle(Li)'. It is a matter of common knowledge that points out 'Manifestation of Principle(Li)' as essential feature of only Toegye's philosophy differentiated from Zhuxi studies. Because basic discussion ground which sees Princple(Li) between Zhuxi studies and Toegye's philosophy has changed, we has overlooked truth that meaning system at which the discussion aims is changed. Attributes of movement and formation of "Li" of Zhuxi Studies is perfectly excluded, setting up idea to secure univerality in the process which Zhuxi studies is formed into universal philosophy. Indeed, Li acted only principle or basis, through it, individuals which are individualized can have universality. However, on Toegye School, a dimension of discussion about Li differs. On Zhuxi studies, Li is put center of metaphysical discussion, on Toegye philosophy, position of Li in Philosophy of Mind and Nature is discussed, this means that Li is directly in ethical system. In this paper, I identify that through philosophy of Yi-Hwang and his descendant, Yi Hyun-Il and Yi Sang-Jeong Toegye philosophy's Li is discussed just on this base, and I research what are specific details of the discussion. In particular, in this paper, I identify aspect that theory of Manifestation of Principle(Li) that is reified through Yi-Hwang, strongly is interpreted by Yi Hyun-Il, and I do aspect that the theory is to be collected theory of Kiho School through Yi Sang-Jeong, to be stopped at nothing to achieve manifestation of Li.
