The purpose of this study is to strengthen the links between the industry and academia and expand job opportunities by developing and applying an education program as University F and design company A receive the project for ‘Industrial Design Specialist Training Course’ from the 2011 ‘Human Resources Fostering Project Customized for Industry-Academia Cooperation’ hosted by the Small & Medium Business Administration. The scope of the study is limited to duties such as II-step design process that can evaluate the job performance as an industrial design specialist required by design company A, in other words, market survey and analyzing design direction, setting design concept and sketching, 2D rendering and 3D modeling, drawing up design drawings, making design mock-up, applying materials and colors, preparing design specification and design painting specification, drawing up 3D instrument design drawings, drawing product structure map, approving product printing specification, making working mock-up, etc. There were some results of the study as follows: First, the four students who participated in this education program displayed high achievement with their new challenging spirit and passion through their hands-on-background in the product development process. Second, design company A tried to find out their attitude, values, and personality besides their vocational competency during the process of giving guidance to the contracted students, and placed emphasis on sociability, cooperativity, enthusiasm and communication skills. Therefore, universities must give appropriate guidance to students through industrial design education so that they can have these key competencies required by ‘the world of design occupation’.
