The purpose of this study is to provide differences in physical self-concept depending on the PAPS rating
and to provide relationships between PAPS factors and sub-factors of physical self-concept of 5th and 6th
grade students in elementary school. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, four class of 5th and 6th
grade in each four school in Seoul were surveyed. With PAPS measurement results and survey, the regression
analysis was used to find out the differences in physical self-concept depending on the PAPS rating by grade
and gender. The seemingly unrelated regressions analysis was used to search the relationship between
sub-factors of physical self-concept and each factor of PAPS. The results of this study are as follows: First, in
the case of 5th grade male students, depending on the PAPS rating 2, 3 and 4, sport competence, body fat,
endurance and whole body factors were significant statistically. In the 6th grade male students, sports
competence, body fat, physical activity, endurance and whole body factors were significant statistically. Second,
in the case of 5th grade female students, depending on the PAPS rating 2, 3 and 4, sports competence, body
fat, self-esteem were significant statistically. In the 6th grade female students, sports competence and
endurance were significant statistically. Third, in the relationship between sub-factors of physical self-concept
and factors of PAPS there were lots of statistically significant correlation. Specifically, cardiovascular endurance
correlates with sports competence, body fat, physical activity, flexibility and endurance. Muscular strength and
muscle endurance correlates with sports competence, body fat, health, flexibility, muscular strength and whole
body. Flexibility correlates with sports competence, physical activity, flexibility and whole body. Agility
correlates with sports competence, body fat, appearance, physical activity, endurance, muscular strength and
whole body. Body fat correlates with body fat, physical activity and muscular strength. Overall, the lower
PAPS rating is, the lower sports competence of physical self-concept is, regardless of grade and gender.
Appearance and health were not significant statistically in any grade and gender. Endurance is significant
statistically in all grade and gender except 5th grade girl students.
