The purpose of this study was to find out the effects of digital portfolio assessment system for improving braille writing ability of students with visual impairments.
As the subjects 40 students were selected and they were 4, 5, and 6 graders at elementary schools for the blind in Seoul, Daegu, Gangwon, and Chungbuk, 20 of them were selected as experimental group, others were as control group. The system was applied over 12 weeks in Korean language writing class. The digital portfolio assessment system which was developed by reviewing previous researches, and practiced fitness test by visual impairment education specialists, special education technology specialists, teachers of students with visual impairments and parents, which proved it to fit for use. The study was carried out pre-test and post-test to students with visual impairments. The processing of data used ANCOVA.
The conclusions through the results and discussion were as follow;
Digital portfolio assessment system improved braille writing ability of students with visual impairments. Especially it was effective to sentence writing in dictation part, and to content generation, construction, expression, and marking in composition part.
