The purpose of this study is to develop an empowerment strategy which helps
university students with disabilities actively participate in society as a social member
through the concept of empowerment and passionately enjoy their life, and to
examine the effectiveness. The study results are presented as follows: First, the
empowerment strategy for university students with disabilities was studied through
literature research and focus group interview with the students. As a result, the
components of their empowerment were found to be Self-cognition, Self-esteem,
Self-efficacy, Disability, Acceptance, Self-determination, Interpersonal Relationship
Ability, Self assertiveness, which were used as themes of their competency
empowerment strategy. The competency empowerment strategy developed in this
study was a program with a total of eight sessions for four weeks, each session of
which was performed for 120 minutes twice a week. Secondly, to examine the
effectiveness of the empowerment strategy for university students with disabilities
developed in this study, paired sample t-test was conducted to compare the test
results before and after the experiment. The subjects of this study was 13 university
students with disabilities. For the analysis, As a result, the students who participated
in the empowerment strategy for university students with disabilities statistically
significantly improved their empowerment in all six categories. Therefore, if the
empowerment of university students with disabilities is enhanced by the
empowerment strategy reflecting their characteristics developed in this study, it will
be helpful to improve their quality of life.
