The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships of a young child with developmental delay with
other peers in an inclusive kindergarten setting using a qualitative analyses. The subjects of this study were a
young child with development delay and a group of twenty-five peers without developmental delays of a
kindergarten with inclusive setting in Seoul. The study was processed from March 10, 2008 through November
21, 2008. During the study, investigator's observatory note, interviews, and related documents were collected.
The results collected could be summarized as follows. First, a young child with developmental delays presented
a five-step of participation process. Second, a young child with developmental delays presented some types of
interaction such as isolation and denial, acceptance and reaction, cooperative and self-expression, and sharing of
feelings. This study has a significance in terms of its role representing the change of process of the relationship
between the young child with developmental delays with peer groups without disabilities. The results suggest a
practical importance and possible implications to the early childhood inclusive setting.
