This study aims to seek an effective and systematic development plan for occupational rehabilitation of people with mental disorder. For the foregoing, this study, first, intended to suggest a future direction of occupational rehabilitation for people with mental disorder by analyzing western and domestic development process of occupational rehabilitation. Second, this study examined present condition of occupational rehabilitation of people with mental disorder and problems of service support system from different angles. Third, this study intended to suggest a development plan for occupational rehabilitation of Korean people with mental disorder through the aforementioned. As a result of examining the present condition and problems of occupational rehabilitation of people with mental disorder through people with mental disorder and their families' desire, this study found problems such as First, contents of programs bearing no relation to the realities, Second, vocational training, job arrangement and placement which are provided focusing on the previously-developed occupational categories and training programs, Third, fundamental exclusion from job opportunities due to the qualification eligible to receive basic living cost, Fourth, limits in using occupational rehabilitation service due to non-registration as disabled and Firth, shortage of various occupations taking account of characteristics of people with mental disorder. As future development plans for occupational rehabilitation of Korean people with mental disorder, this study suggested First, seeking a variety of plans for promotion of employment of the disabled, Second, offering various typed occupational rehabilitation programs such as New Frontier models, Third, improvement of occupational rehabilitation-related laws, Fourth, offering residence and medical service, and Fifth, cultivation of occupational rehabilitation experts.
