This paper claims that museum job competency development should be based on
National Competency Standards and Curriculum Guideline of ICOM-ICTOP. Currently
Korean museum professionals stay on credentialism and qualificationism. Establishment of
competency development system based on National Competency Standards will be human
resource development for the merit system.
Enactment of National Competency Standards(NCS) and implement of ICOM-ICTOP
Curriculum Guideline are responsibilities of Korean Museum socitey. This is for
connection and cooperation among international related institutions. In museum, as
Community of Practice, competency development should be discussed in three points;
mutual engagement, joint enterprise, and shared repertoire.
The key of museum job competency development means re-structuring of human
resource development system for capability development of museum professionals
including docents. It is hard to say that current qualification system and competency
development in museum are based on museology. Therefore, this paper claims that
improvement of professional competency development should be based on Museology and
National Competency Standards need to be established based on experience of
professionals from each museum. This provides standards of cooperation among
industrial-academic-government and departments based on lifelong Education act.
